Muswell Hill and Wood Green

Muswell Hill is a suburb of North London, situated approximately six miles from Charing Cross. Close to Alexandra Park and Highgate Woods, the area has a distinctly village atmosphere, despite the constant problem of through traffic and parking. Muswell Hill has a truly elegant Edwardian shopping centre, and this, together with a choice of good local schools, makes the suburb a popular place to live for families, commuters to Central London, and those attracted by its solid network of amenities, green spaces and distant views. Muswell Green has shaken off its past, somewhat staid, reputation - now its trendy bars, good restaurants, coffee shops and food deli's have transformed the area into a fashionable place to live. Wood Green, is Muswell Hill's vibrant and multi-cultural neighbour, whose claim to fame is a strong artistic tradition which encompasses a vast number of disciplines – the theatre, media, photography, dance, music, to name but a few. At its heart is the now well-established Chocolate Factory - a vast cultural centre, as well as the world-famous Mountview Academy which attracts world-wide interest and talent.

Large Edwardian detached and semi-detached houses set in wide, tree-lined roads. Mid-war estates of varying sized houses, as well as many-storeyed mansion blocks of spacious apartments. In line with demand, properties once converted into flats and apartments are now being restored to their former glory as large, spacious family homes (which come with a huge price tag). A scattering of smaller Victorian terraces on outskirt areas. Modern 1980's developments include 4 bed town houses and 3 bedroom flats. Wood Green has retained its period housing, with many streets of Edwardian and Victorian terraces. Residential property also includes large council estates in varying states of repair. The area is the subject of a vast regeneration programme that should bring its status more in line with its wealthier neighbours.

Middle-class families, smart high-income professionals, actors, journalists and media people have made Muswell Hill their home. Wood Green is home to a truly multi-cultural society; it has been said that over 200 languages are spoken in the area. Its reputation as a respected centre for artistic culture attracts those working in the industry. The area is home to both middle and working class families.
